Justin Raines is a Grammy Award winning bassist. He is also a bass instructor and founder of JRaines Lessons. Justin is currently the bass player for 6 time Grammy award winning artist Israel Houghton and Grammy award winning pop star Ne-Yo. Justin plays and has played with Pastor William McDowell, Tasha Cobbs-Leonard, Donnie McClurkin, Musiq Souchild, JoJo, CeCe Winans, Karen Clark-Sheard, Kierra “KiKi” Sheard, Martha Munizzi and many other gospel/christian artists. Playing behind these different artists has given Justin the opportunity to travel to Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, all over Europe,
all over Asia, South America, the Caribbean and all throughout the United States.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Justin started playing bass in the 10th grade. He attended the Pittsburgh High School for the Creative and Performing Arts (aka CAPA). Being a multi-instrumentalist, Justin also plays trumpet, piano and drums. Growing up in Pittsburgh jump started the love for music and learning. Pittsburgh is where he learned the basic foundation of music. After high school he attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Justin’s career began to take off while at Berklee. Traveling and touring the world wit his peers and artists that he looked up to.
Having a heart for teaching, Justin started JRaines Lessons. Where he teaches private bass guitar and synth bass lessons to students all over the world via Skype and ZOOM. Justin loves to educate and share all of his experiences and knowledge with anyone who wants to learn.
